◾ About BioInnoSense
“BioInnoSense” combines bio-sensing and innovation, aiming to foster biosensor-based technologies that can impact diverse fields such as healthcare, environmental monitoring, and food safety. The competition is organized jointly by Waseda University, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, Shibaura Institute of Technology, and Macnica, Inc., with the mission of creating innovations that connect academic research and industrial implementation.

◾ Our Laboratory’s Participation
In 2025, our laboratory formed a team mainly composed of third-year undergraduate students, joined by one motivated first-year student. Despite being newcomers, our students worked across grade levels, designed concepts, built prototypes, and presented their ideas in this highly competitive environment.
This year, a total of four university teams — from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, Waseda University, and Shibaura Institute of Technology — took part. Competing alongside peers from these institutions, our students gained valuable experience in teamwork, presentation, and the real-world application of technology.
◾ Looking Ahead
At Shibaura Institute of Technology, the competition is open to students from all departments. We hope that more students from diverse fields will join future editions of BioInnoSense, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
For our laboratory, this experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of encouraging students to take initiative, learn through practice, and create the future.
